1. It’s important for internet marketing newbies, when selecting your business niche to choose one that you know well and are passionate about. Don’t focus on a broad topic try to pick a micro niche.. In other words, if you want to create a site about beauty tips, why not focus on makeup for the face?
2. Getting your own domain name is paramount. The name should be related to your niche and for branding purposes you should keep it catchy, brief and try to avoid hyphenated words. They can be good for SEO, but not much else.
3. You should spend less than a year for a domain, and if you’re paying more than now, you should move it to another Registrar. I recommend Hostgator or Godaddy.
4. A good webhost is vital. You should look for a domain host who offers Linux, Cpanel and Fantastico and has a great reputation. And unless you need ecommerce software or plan on getting 10,000 visitors a day, you shouldn’t pay in excess of a month
5. Use WordPress as your blogging platform. It’s free and can be learnt very quickly. There are also 100′s of free templates and themes and plugins which you can add to your site in minutes. I choose all my templates now.
6. For internet marketing newbies it’s vital to start building a mailing list. This is the lifeblood of every successful marketer. Separate your prospect list from your buyer list, know the ones who will keep buying from you. Because they’re gold.
7. Write up a free report with valuable info and give it away to people on a squeeze page or opt in box on your blog as an incentive for giving you their name and email. 1. Pick a good niche and then work it. ‘Inch wide, mile deep’, as the saying goes. Don’t think that you’ll make a ton of money by selling everything under the sun (unless you use Ebay, but even then, most Ebay big-timers specialize in one niche or set of related products).
2. Create a product or select an affiliate product to market and gain a commission from. Clickbank.com is a great place to find thousands upon thousands of affiliate products to sell for high commissions, as much as 75% profit to you from each sale.
3. Pick a good brand name and related domain name. It should be short, easy to remember and reflect what your business actually does. A mistake the some newbies make is that they brand their own name, or a name that does not reflect what the business is.
For example, say Sarah Brown had a garden shed business, where she had an ebook on how to pick the best garden shed and also had a drop shipping business, selling sheds to her customers. If she chose ‘SarahBrown.com’, this says nothing about what the business is to potential clients. Also, a gimmick name such as ‘Sheddeez.com’ would not be recognised by the search engines as being a keyword related to garden sheds. A better domain adn brand name would be something like CheapGardenShedsWorld.com, for example.
Your domain name is the name by which your online customers will remember you by. A good domain name is one that is easy to remember, short (if possible) and easy to spell. There are many websites around offering domain names, and prices can start for less than . Ideally, your main topic keyword needs to be in your domain URL.
4. Get your own website. Do not go for a free page on some affiliate site, but get your own – this is a business you’re building here. The domains and websites you own are your internet ‘real estate’. It’s not as hard as you might imagine. Get some good hosting (there are plenty of companies on the web today offering their services). Then buy a template system if you can’t program (again take a look around the web and you will soon find plenty of companies offering web templates). If you find web design, programming and HTML a challenge or chore then you can outsourec this relatively cheaply if you wish.
